Obesity has been called the diseases of the rich by many people. And when you look closely, there is in fact some truth in this statement. Ask yourself when was the first and last time that you ever saw an obese beggar? Never isn’t it? The reason why this is happening now is because of our higher living of standard. As we have more disposable income, we tend to spend more on luxuries of life. Previously, home cooked meals might be great but now, we prefer restaurants foods. As we start to eat more and more unhealthy foods from the restaurants, we end up getting bigger and bigger around the middle area of our body.
When that happens, you will probably hear lots of advices to lose weight for a healthy life. If you were to look carefully at those “advices”, you will find that weight loss does not equal good health. Try to test this myth by going to professional nutritionist or doctors, they will advice you instead to lose Fat and NOT weight.
Our body is made up of not just fats. It is comprised of muscles, bones and other tissues as well and water. When you bear this in mind , only will you realizes that the phrase “weight loss” is misleading and inappropriate. So what most people are actually referring to is “Fat Loss” but sad to say many are unaware of this important difference.
So if you are set for losing weight, you could end up in endangering your health instead. How can you do something right when you don’t even know what you are doing?
For example, there several ways to lose weight quickly, but these methods won’t necessarily help you lose fat. Case in point: starvation. You can lose weight by staving yourself. However, this won’t help you lose an iota of fat, the thing you WANT to lose!
When you starve, your body’s primary energy source (that is, food) is cut off. It will then look for the available carbohydrates in order to produce energy. When the carbohydrates are all used up it will then turn to protein, and your muscle tissues. Only when all your muscles are burned away will your body turn to burn fat!
As you can see, if you starve, fat is one of the last things you will lose, and muscle is one of the first! You will lose valuable muscles, make your bones weak and cripple your body in several different ways by starving. But that is not where it ends.
When you had starved yourself for several days, the hunger pangs that you feel can be overwhelming. This will hunger pangs will make you eat more foods than before, However with any exercises, it doesn’t help to rebuilt your muscles mass. What it does is just gives you more fat deposit and ultimately you just end up getting fatter. With already less muscles tissue left in your body, your body ability to burn away calories has already been diminished.
In conclusion, eat only healthy foods and exercising regularly. And before starving yourself or embarking on any weight loss program, ensure that the program is talking about losing your fat and not just weight loss.
